From the moment we stepped onto Kaia Explorer in Labuan Bajo, the tone was set: understated luxury with zero pretense. Our focus was Padar Island and Gili Lawa, both of which the crew timed perfectly—arriving early to avoid crowds, positioning the boat for ideal light. As a landscape photographer, I appreciated the stable deck and charging stations for my drones. The yacht’s compactness fostered intimacy, though the second cabin’s window seals leaked slightly during a downpour. That said, the response was immediate and apologetic. Honeymoon on Kaia: Minimal, Meaningful
We chose Kaia Explorer for its simplicity. No marble, no staff in uniforms—just a well-built phinisi doing what it should. Our first full day was at Long Beach, where the crew set up a picnic under acacia trees. We swam, read, napped—no agenda. The next morning, snorkeling near Gili Lawa, we saw turtles grazing on seagrass, undisturbed. The boat’s 2020 build means modern comforts without clutter: LED lighting, efficient galley, strong anchoring. The lower cabin has limited headroom, but we didn’t mind—felt cozy, not confining. Evenings were quiet: a single lantern, the sound of water against hull. One night, off Kalong Island, we watched the bats pour from the mangroves like smoke. The chef adjusted for my shellfish allergy without fuss. Wi-Fi is absent—intentional, I suspect. This wasn’t about documenting. It was about disappearing, just for a moment. Kaia made that possible.

Kaia Explorer : élégance sobre et nature brute
Notre petit groupe d’amis a choisi le Kaia Explorer pour fêter les 40 ans de Camille — une decision parfaite. À 12, nous avions largement l’espace malgré les deux cabines, et chaque escale s’est révélée une étape précise de notre itinerary. Manjarite, par exemple, nous a offert ce contraste si rare : sable rose presque trop parfait, mais surtout une faune subaquatique intense à seulement 10 mètres du bord. J’ai insisté pour qu’on fasse un deuxième snorkel à Crystal Rock, et le capitaine a ajusté l’horaire sans aucun souci — un vrai signe de flexibilité.
Le design du phinisi, sobre mais fonctionnel, correspond exactement à ce que l’on espérait : pas de surcharge décorative, du teck bien entretenu, et une master suite particulièrement silencieuse à l’arrière. La cuisine était constante — poissons grillés, mangue locale, riz coco — rien de tape-à-l’œil, mais toujours frais. On a même réussi à capter un drone shot de Kalong Island au coucher, alors que les chauves-souris commençaient leur migration. Un moment rare.
Petit bémol : le wifi, bien sûr, quasi inexistant — mais après tout, c’est ce qu’on cherche, non ? J’aurais juste aimé une journée de plus. Peut-être une extension vers Batu Bolong la prochaine fois. Le crew, discret mais attentif, a compris l’essentiel : l’élégance, c’est de ne pas en faire trop.

Viajamos como familia con niños pequeños —algo que normalmente evitamos por el tema de espacio— pero las dos cabins, especialmente el master suite en popa, ofrecieron suficiente privacidad y comodidad. La tripulación fue discreta pero atenta, ajustando horarios para que los kids pudieran nadar en aguas tranquilas de Gili Lawa, donde el snorkel fue casi como un aquarium natural. Uno de los highlights fue el picnic en Long Beach, justo después de un drone shot que capturó toda la proa del barco contra el atardecer. Obviamente, no esperábamos full wifi en medio del parque nacional, pero un poco más de señal hubiera ayudado para compartir algunas fotos en tiempo real —sí, soy de esos que no puede desconectarse del todo. El itinerario fue bien equilibrado: no demasiado denso, pero con momentos perfectos en Rinca Island, donde los niños vieron los komodos desde cerca sin sentirse abrumados. Kaia Explorer ile Komodo’da 4 günlük wellness retreat tam bir reset oldu. Antalya’dan gelen biri olarak, doğanın bu kadar powerful enerjisini beklemiyordum. Kanawa Island’da sabah yoga session’ları, ardından kristal suya bir dip — sanki tüm digital noise’u geride bıraktık. Gili Lawa’ya geçtiğimiz gün, o sıcak kahverengi dağların önünde meditasyon yapmak, drone shot’larda bile yansıtmakta zorlanacağımız bir iç sükûnet verdi. Kaia’nın master suite’i oldukça spacious, ama internet sinyali bazen kayboluyor — ki belki de bu iyi, çünkü gerçekten disconnect oluyorsun. Amid the demands of leading a corporate team, this babymoon on Kaia Explorer was less a trip and more a recalibration. The absence of Wi-Fi was initially jarring—within hours, a relief. Sailing into Taka Makassar at dawn, where pink sands meet turquoise shallows, felt like stepping into a dreamscape. We spent the morning floating in silence, the only sound the occasional splash of a reef manta. The cabin’s king bed faced sliding glass doors, so we woke to the rhythm of gentle swells. While the yacht’s 28-meter frame suits couples perfectly, I’d note the AC in our cabin cycled noisily at night—minor, but noticeable in such stillness. Still, the attention to detail redeemed everything: turndown service with lavender mist, prenatal massage on deck, and breakfasts of dragon fruit and coconut pancakes. For those seeking stillness wrapped in understated luxury, Kaia offers something rarer than comfort: space to breathe, deeply.
Birthday with Best Views Ever
Turned 42 on the deck of Kaia Explorer, and honestly, best birthday yet. We anchored near Taka Makassar—water so blue it looked fake. Crew gave me a 'Birthday Captain' hat and a cold Bintang, then took us snorkeling where I saw my first reef shark. Later, barbecue on the beach with fresh lobster and rice—it was wild luxury. Kalong Island at dusk was another highlight, bats flying out like a scene from a movie. The boat feels luxurious without being flashy—natural wood, clean lines, and smooth sailing. Cabin was comfy, bed super supportive. Only thing: no USB ports near the bed, jadi charging phone malam agak ribet. But again, small issue. The team went above and beyond—remembered I love spicy sambal and added it to every meal. This trip reminded me to celebrate life. Already shared Kaia’s IG with my CEO for next company retreat!
