• Tri-Color Beach View: The summit presents a breathtaking sight: three bays each with different sand colors. One bay has pure white coral sand, another has a black volcanic-sand beach, and a third shows a subtle pink hue. It’s a scene of rare natural contrast. • Wild, Rugged Terrain: Padar is the third largest island in the park, and it feels untouched. The hills are covered in grass and scrub. Wildlife like deer or wild boar might be spotted at dawn or dusk. • Secluded Atmosphere: Padar sees fewer visitors than its famous neighbors. The hike is self-paced, and there are no buildings on the island – just nature and the occasional ranger station.

• Hike to the Summit: This is the main event. From the trailhead, follow the sandy path up roughly 400 steps. It takes about 30 minutes. Bring water and good hiking shoes; the sun can be intense. Once at the top, savor the epic vista of Padar’s three bays. • Photography: This viewpoint is an Instagram classic. At sunrise, the hills and seas light up in soft colors. Evening light (if you stay on a liveaboard) also casts a golden glow. A drone shot can capture the island’s entire shape. • Beach Exploration: After descending, trek carefully down to explore one of the beaches. The large white-sand beach is ideal for a swim. On the far side of the island is “Long Beach” (golden in color) that stretches along a bay – also worth seeing if time allows. • Snorkeling (Limited): Padar’s reefs are decent, but conditions can have strong currents. Most visitors focus on hiking and photos. If snorkeling, look for calm spots near the main beach.

For the best experience, target sunrise. The first light of day illuminates the beaches beautifully and the island is coolest. The dry season (April–October) offers clear views. Padar gets crowded early, so an early start means you may have the peak to yourself before the crowds arrive. The climb can be slippery if wet, so avoid Padar in heavy rains (Nov–Mar).

Padar Island is a must-see on Komodo tours. From Labuan Bajo, it takes about 2–3 hours by boat. Most 2-3 day liveaboard cruises and some speedboat day tours include Padar early in the morning to catch sunrise. Boats anchor near a jetty or cove at the south side, where the trail begins. Tours typically schedule Padar either at dawn or dusk; plan your trip accordingly.

• Wear Good Shoes: The trail has steep steps and loose dirt. Closed-toe shoes with grip will keep you stable. • Bring Water and Snacks: There are no vendors on Padar. Bring what you need for the hike. • Sun Protection: Use sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat. Once you’re on the peak, there’s no shade. • Stay Safe: Keep a safe distance from the edge when taking photos. Don’t attempt risky poses on the cliff. • Respect Others: If it’s crowded, step aside on the trail for others. At the top, spread out to share the view. • Trash-Free: Carry out all your trash. The island has no waste facilities. • Time it Right: Allocate enough time to hike up and down. Tours often give 20-30 minutes at the top; consider going up by sunrise instead of later in the day. • Combine Tours: Padar is often visited with Komodo and Pink Beach. Plan a full day or multi-day tour to include all major highlights.

Padar remained relatively unknown until tourism grew. Its name may refer to “three,” hinting at the triple-bay view. As part of Komodo National Park (UNESCO World Heritage), Padar is strictly protected. Regulations keep the island’s landscapes pristine: no buildings or development. Only small permitted tour groups visit for a few hours.
