We joined Alfatran Phinisi Lombok for a four-day exploration of Komodo’s quieter side—specifically Batu Bolong and the northern reaches of Padar. As photographers, we appreciated the crew’s instinct for light; they timed anchorings so we could shoot sunrise without rushing. One morning, we drifted into a narrow channel near Batu Bolong where the current brought in manta rays—our guide knew the tide patterns perfectly. The yacht, though 27 meters, feels spacious due to its low density of guests—max 28, but we had 16, so space was generous. Cabins are well-insulated, though one had a slight dampness near the porthole after heavy rain. The galley served excellent rendang and fresh mango lassis—simple, but executed with care.
