Die Standard Cabin war kleiner als erwartet, aber makellos gepflegt – und die Aussicht durch das Bullauge auf das nächtliche, phosphoreszierende Wasser war unbezahlbar. Der Captain erlaubte mir, früh morgens mit einem der Guides nach Castle Rock zu fahren, um den Sonnenaufgang über den Klippen zu sehen. Einzig die Kaffeemaschine war etwas langsam – aber hey, wir waren im Nationalpark, kein Hotel.

The captain timed our arrival at Kalong to coincide with the bat exodus—over 20,000 of them, a swirling cloud against the dusk. Meals were simple but precise: miso-glazed eggplant, grilled squid with lime. The Wi-Fi was limited, but we didn’t miss it. My only note: the lower deck lighting was a touch dim for reading. But that encouraged us to look up—stars, sea, each other.
