Our cabin, forward starboard, had cross-ventilation that made air-con optional—something I appreciated, given how hot it gets after Manta Point. We spent a full morning at Gili Lawa Laut, snorkelling along the drop-off where the current brought in batfish and white-tip reef sharks. The crew anticipated our rhythm: water, shade, and a chilled towel when we surfaced. Later, Long Beach offered that rare thing—solitude on a postcard bay. We anchored early, had the sand to ourselves for two hours. The galley served miso-glazed eggplant and tatare of yellowfin that rivalled London’s best. Only slight friction was the Wi-Fi—functional for messages, not video. Not a true flaw, more a reminder we were properly off-grid. What stood out was the balance: structured enough for a dive group’s needs, fluid enough for spontaneous swims or a sundowner at Taka Makassar, where the sandbar shifts with the tide.
