• Spectacular Viewpoint: A short but steep 10–15 minute climb up Kelor’s hill leads to a ridge with one of the best views near Labuan Bajo. From here you can see surrounding islands and the turquoise Flores Sea. The panorama of the island’s white beaches against green woodlands is breathtaking. • Coral Reef Snorkeling: The waters around Kelor are famed for lively coral gardens just offshore. Snorkelers will find colorful coral formations and tropical fish – even beginners will see plenty of underwater life. • Tranquil Beach: Kelor’s beach is a long, curved stretch of white sand encircling the island. It stays relatively uncrowded as fewer tours go here compared to other spots. The gentle waves create a safe swimming bay.

• Hike to the Hilltop: Almost everyone who visits Kelor hikes the 10–15 minute trail. The view from the top is spectacular – 360° of ocean and isles. Bring water, as the climb, though short, is under the sun. • Snorkel the Reef: Strap on your gear and snorkel right off the beach. The coral reef is shallow and teeming with life, including small reef sharks and colorful fish. The water is warm and visibility good, making it excellent for all skill levels. • Beach Time: After your hike or snorkel, relax on the soft white sand. The calm bay is perfect for a leisurely swim or beach games with kids. • Photography: Kelor’s symmetry – a single hill rising from a ring of sand – makes it incredibly photogenic. Try capturing the curved beach around the hill from various angles. • Marine Life: Keep an eye out underwater for rays or turtles. Even if they don’t appear, the vibrant fish and corals are a treat to watch in the crystal-clear water.

The dry season (April–October) is ideal for Kelor. During these months the skies are clear and the sea calm, making the viewpoint climb and snorkeling perfect. Try to visit in the early morning for a cooler hike and fewer boats, or late afternoon for softer light on the scenery. Rainy season (Nov–Mar) brings frequent showers; avoid afternoons when rain is likely.

Kelor is very easy to reach. From Labuan Bajo, it’s about 30 minutes by boat. Many day tours to Komodo include a quick stop at Kelor either in the morning or afternoon. You can also hire a private boat directly to Kelor. Boats land at a small sandy beach. From there, the hill and the main beach are just steps away – no transportation needed on the island.

• Clothing: Wear a rash guard or quick-dry shirt and sturdy shoes for the hill climb. Bring a hat and sunscreen – the trail has little shade. • Snorkel Gear: If possible, bring or rent snorkel gear in Labuan Bajo. The local boats may have limited equipment. • Stay Hydrated: Bring water and snacks. There are no shops or services on Kelor. • Protect the Reef: Don’t touch the coral or disturb marine life. Even standing on coral can damage it. • Minimize Impact: Pack out all trash and use the restroom before you come (there are no facilities on the island). • Respect Wildlife: Observe sea creatures quietly. If you see turtles or rays, keep a safe distance and enjoy from afar. • Combine Tours: Kelor is often part of an itinerary with Padar Island or Pink Beach. Plan a full day to see multiple spots around Komodo without rushing.
