  5. SiOra Permit System: Complete Guide to Booking Komodo 2026
Hosea Titi SanjayaMarch 23, 2026

What Is SiOra — and Why Is It Mandatory in 2026?

If you are planning a trip to Komodo National Park in 2026, SiOra is the most important three syllables you need to know. SiOra (Sistem Informasi Operasi Pariwisata) is the official digital permit platform used to manage visitor quotas at Komodo Island and Padar Island. Starting in April 2026, no visitor can set foot on either island without a valid SiOra booking — period.

The system was introduced in response to overtourism. At peak periods, Komodo Island was receiving several thousand visitors per day, putting stress on the ecosystem and threatening the very wildlife that makes this place iconic. The Indonesian government's solution was a hard cap: 1,000 visitors per day across three timed sessions.

This is not a soft limit. Boats without confirmed SiOra permits will be turned back at the park boundary.

The Three Visiting Sessions

Komodo Island and Padar Island are open during three fixed windows each day (WITA — Central Indonesia Time, UTC+8):

Session Time Window Best For
Session I 05:00 – 08:00 Sunrise, cool temperatures, fewer crowds
Session II 08:00 – 11:00 Balanced light, dragon activity peaks
Session III 15:00 – 18:00 Afternoon light, golden hour photography

Session I is the most sought-after. Padar Island at sunrise is one of Indonesia's most photographed views, and reaching the viewpoint before the crowds arrive makes a significant difference. Session I permits sell out weeks in advance during peak season (July–September).

Session II offers the best chance of seeing Komodo dragons active in the open — they tend to bask in morning warmth before retreating to shade as midday approaches. Session III is popular with liveaboard guests who anchor overnight and time their final island visit before departing.

Step-by-Step: How to Register on SiOra

Step 1 — Access the Platform

Visit the official SiOra portal through the Taman Nasional Komodo (TNK) booking system. Your tour operator or liveaboard captain can provide the current direct link, as the URL has changed during system updates.

Step 2 — Create an Account

Register with a valid email address. You will need to verify your email before proceeding. Use an email you can access reliably — verification codes expire within 15 minutes.

Step 3 — Enter Visitor Details

For each person in your group, you will need:

  • Full name (as it appears on passport or ID)
  • Nationality
  • Date of birth
  • ID/Passport number

International visitors must use passport details. Indonesian citizens can use KTP numbers.

Step 4 — Select Date, Island, and Session

Choose your destination (Komodo Island, Padar Island, or both), your preferred date, and your session. The system shows real-time availability. Green = available. Red = full.

Step 5 — Payment

Park entry fees (2026 rates) are paid directly through the SiOra platform. Payment is accepted via bank transfer, virtual account, or select digital wallets. Credit card payment is available but may carry an additional processing fee.

Step 6 — Download Your Permit

After payment is confirmed, download and save your permit as a PDF. Rangers at the island jetty will scan the QR code on your permit. No internet connection is required at the point of entry — the QR code works offline.

Tips for a Smooth SiOra Booking

Book early. Session I permits for Padar Island during July–September fill up 3–4 weeks in advance. If you have fixed travel dates, book as soon as they are confirmed.

Let your tour operator handle it. Licensed tour operators and liveaboard crews are familiar with the system and book permits as part of their service. If you are booking an organised tour, confirm that SiOra permits are included — most reputable operators include them as standard.

Screenshot everything. Save your confirmation email, payment receipt, and the permit PDF to your phone before departing Labuan Bajo. Mobile data can be unreliable at sea.

Check names carefully. Permits are non-transferable. A name mismatch between your permit and your ID will result in entry being refused. Double-check all entries before completing payment.

FAQ

Q: What happens if the system returns an error during payment? Do not attempt to pay again immediately. Wait 10–15 minutes, then check your email — the payment may have processed despite the error. If no confirmation arrives, contact the SiOra helpdesk before attempting a second payment to avoid being charged twice.

Q: Can I book for a group? Yes. You can add multiple visitors in a single booking session. There is no group discount, but the process is the same — fill in each visitor's details and complete a single payment.

Q: What if my plans change and I need to cancel? Cancellation and refund policies are set by the national park authority and may change. Check current policy at the time of booking. As a general rule, permits cancelled more than 48 hours before the visit date may be eligible for a partial refund.

Q: Is SiOra required for Rinca Island? As of early 2026, SiOra is mandatory for Komodo Island and Padar Island. Rinca Island operates under a separate permit system managed by the park rangers on-site. Check with your tour operator for the latest requirements, as regulations are updated periodically.

Understanding SiOra is the foundation of planning any Komodo trip in 2026. Once your permits are locked in, everything else — boat, itinerary, accommodation — falls into place around them.
