A Thoughtful Passage
Marking our anniversary aboard the Arfisyana Indah Phinisi was a decision rooted in a desire for depth. The boat, at 29 metres, is large enough to feel stable, small enough to remain personal. We stayed in the Master Suite, which featured a hand-carved headboard and a private nook for morning coffee. One morning, we anchored near Bidadari Beach and took the tender ashore. The sand was powder-soft, and the water so clear we could see stingrays gliding beneath. We spent hours reading under a parasol, the crew quietly replenishing water and fruit. A highlight was snorkelling off Sebayur Island, where the current brought dense schools of fusiliers and a turtle that circled us curiously. The chef accommodated my wife’s gluten sensitivity without compromising flavour—grilled snapper with a tamarind reduction was exceptional. Evenings were spent on the upper deck, watching the sky deepen. The staff offered a digestif of spiced arak, smooth and warming. One note: the tender’s engine can be loud on startup. But that fades quickly. The real luxury was in the details: chilled towels after hikes, coffee ready at dawn, binoculars always available. We visited Komodo Island and saw dragons near the trail—ancient, deliberate, indifferent. The boat handled the straits with quiet confidence. This wasn’t curated perfection. It was lived elegance.

Wae Rebo

A Floating Archive of Light and Stone
I brought six lenses and returned with 1,200 keepers. The Arfisyana Indah Phinisi proved an ideal platform for a photography expedition. Its position at Padar Island at dawn allowed us to capture the tri-bay gradient in soft, golden light—no other boat in sight. At Batu Bolong, the skipper maneuvered to keep the sun behind us, maximizing contrast on the reef’s edge. The top deck doubled as a quiet editing space—stable enough for my MacBook, and they provided a 220V outlet in the cabin. Meals were served family-style, which fostered conversation with fellow guests, all of whom were thoughtful and low-key. The only limitation? Limited charging ports in the Standard Cabin. A small thing, easily managed. What stayed with me was the silence between shots—just the creak of teak and the wind in the sails.

Soft Light and Salt Air
We booked the Arfisyana Indah Phinisi for our honeymoon, wanting something unhurried and deeply textured. From the first morning, anchored off Bidadari Beach, I knew we’d made the right choice. The water shifted from jade to cobalt as the sun climbed, and the crew had already laid out fresh papaya and strong espresso on the upper deck. Our Standard Cabin was understated but refined—slatted wood panels, a rainfall shower, and blackout shades that worked flawlessly. We spent one afternoon snorkelling near Rinca Island, where the current brought schools of fusiliers and a reef shark gliding beneath us. The guide stayed close, ensuring safety without hovering. Evenings were our favourite: dining on deck, the breeze warm, the conversation easy. The chef prepared a tamarind-glazed tuna that I still dream about. The boat’s size—29 metres, seven cabins—meant we had space to disappear when we wanted. One night, we slept under the stars on the bow, wrapped in thin cotton blankets. The only sound was the creak of rigging and the occasional splash. My only wish? An extra day. We barely scratched the surface of what Komodo offers. The dragons on Komodo Island felt like relics from another era—massive, deliberate, indifferent. This journey didn’t feel staged. It felt earned.

Master Suite

Island Hopping in Style
The crew set up floating loungers, dan kita habiskan siang main floating ring dan tertawa. Di Gili Lawa, hiking track-nya worth the sweat — pemandangannya literally takes your breath. Kita makan siang di atas bukit, packed lunch dari boat, very thoughtful. Master Suite saya pesan worth it — bathtubnya besar, bisa mandi sambil lihat laut. WiFi memang nggak stabil, but honestly, who needs it? Malam-malam kita main board games dengan candlelight, very romantic vibe. One night, anchor agak goyang karena angin kencang, tapi crew langsung adjust. Overall, very well-managed. Arfisyana Indah Phinisi feels like home, tapi home with ocean view.

Serious Diving, Authentic Vessel
As a marine biologist and diver, I’m particular about expedition vessels. The Arfisyana Indah Phinisi impressed with its practicality and local authenticity. We focused on southern Komodo sites—Castle Rock, Nusa Kode—and the crew’s knowledge of tides and thermoclines was spot-on. The dive platform was uncluttered, with space for camera rigs and redundant air fills. I appreciated the absence of mass tourism—most days, we were the only boat at anchor. The Standard Cabin was compact but functional, with excellent ventilation. Hot water was inconsistent, but forgivable given the remote setting. Meals were hearty and locally sourced—grilled reef fish, jackfruit curry, tropical fruit platters. One evening, we anchored near Gili Lawa and the crew laid out mats for stargazing, pointing out constellations with a laser pen. No frills, no gimmicks—just a well-run, seaworthy phinisi doing what it was built for.
