About Athira Phinisi
Athira Phinisi holds an advantage over every deeper-drafted vessel in the fleet: a hull shallow enough to bring the boat within wading distance of beaches that other captains can only point at from a respectful distance. At 25.7 meters, with ironwood and hard teak construction built for coastal work, Athira can nose up to shorelines that force conventional phinisis to anchor offshore and deploy tenders — a difference guests feel immediately when they step from the gangway directly onto pink sand rather than climbing in and out of a rubber dinghy. The experienced maritime team of five to six manages the vessel with the close familiarity of a small crew who know their boat's limits and capabilities precisely, and the 6D22 engine pushes Athira to thirteen knots when tidal windows demand speed. Up to twenty guests enjoy the vessel's open deck with the confidence that the anchorage chosen tonight is the one closest to tomorrow morning's best sunrise spot. KomodoExplorer Indonesia recommends Athira Phinisi for guests who want to feel fully arrived at every island, not merely adjacent to it.

◈
KELOR ISLAND
Ancient sailors called it "The Guardian." Dutch colonials built watchtowers on its crown. Local legend says it's a giant sea turtle turned to stone. A 20-minute climb rewards you with 360° views of dragon territories. The coral gardens below hide patrolling sea turtles in crystal shallows.
◈
MANJERITE
Every sunset, tens of thousands of flying foxes launch from mangroves, creating a black river across orange skies. Ancient sea nomads believed these bats carried souls to the afterlife. Watch from your deck at 17:30. The sky will erupt. You'll forget to breathe.
◈
PADAR ISLAND
Three crescent bays—turquoise, cobalt, jade—curve around dragon-spine ridges. Legend says a dragon princess died here protecting her brothers. Her body became the ridgeline. Her tears became three seas. The 30-minute climb is ruthless, but every explorer says: "I can die now."
◈
PINK BEACH
One of only seven pink beaches on Earth. Microscopic red coral creates a rose-gold blush. Sailors once feared it was cursed by dragon blood. The reef drops from knee-deep to 50 meters—turtles, reef sharks, and octopi patrol waters so clear you'll think you're dreaming.
◈
KOMODO ISLAND
Ground zero. The throne. Komodo dragons—largest lizards on Earth, unchanged for 4 million years. They sprint 20 km/h, kill with venom-laced bites. Trek with armed rangers. Watch them sun like kings. Feel evolution stare back. This isn't a zoo. It's their Kingdom
◈
TAKA MAKASSAR
A sandbar that emerges at low tide, then disappears beneath waves. Sea nomads called it "Ghost Island"—a resting place for ocean spirits. Stand in the middle of the ocean with ankle-deep water. Snorkel where the island vanishes. Your private Maldives, but only for 2 hours.
◈
MANTA POINT
A submerged pinnacle where currents collide, creating a cleaning station for manta rays with 7-meter wingspans. Divers call them "Royal Stingrays"—reincarnated ocean kings. The taboo: look, never touch. Watch them barrel-roll beneath you. Swimming with mantas IS your bucket list.
◈
GILI LAWA
Twin islands—Lawa Darat and Lawa Laut—frame the golden highway between sky and sea. Ancient traders navigated by these peaks. At sunrise, watch the world ignite from savannah ridges. At sunset, the sky bleeds into three shades of fire. The 30-minute trek is steep, but the 360° view makes kings jealous.
◈
SLABA ISLAND
Slaba rises like a fortress from deep blue—a volcanic dome crowned with savannah where white-bellied sea eagles hunt. Bajo fishermen call it "Pulau Rajawali" (Eagle Island), believing the birds are guardians of hidden treasures below. Dive the walls where currents deliver big fish, sharks, and swirling barracuda. Above: eagles. Below: an underwater avalanche of life.
◈
SEBAYUR ISLAND
Sebayur guards one of Komodo's best-kept secrets: untouched coral gardens teeming with life. While others chase dragons, divers chase legends here—pygmy seahorses, ghost pipefishes, and macro critters hiding in soft coral forests. The bay is a natural aquarium. The hillside trek offers sunrise views without the Padar crowds.
◈
KANAWA ISLAND
While crowds chase Pink Beach, explorers slip to Kanawa—pristine coral reefs, zero crowds. Fishermen once avoided it, believing the Sea Goddess protected these waters. The reef here is 80% live coral. Turtles nest on beaches. Blacktip sharks patrol shallows. This is the Komodo nobody talks about.
◈
SABOLO ISLAND (RANGKO CAVE)
Hidden in Sabolo's limestone cliffs lies Rangko Cave—a saltwater cavern illuminated by a ceiling skylight. Sunbeams pierce the darkness, turning water neon blue. Local legend says bathing here grants courage to face dragons. Swim through the entrance tunnel. Surface inside the cathedral. Float in liquid sapphire while light dances on ancient rock.
◈
BIDADARI ISLAND
Bidadari" means angel in Indonesian. One glance explains why. Powdery white sand. Turquoise shallows. Zero crowds. Fishermen say angels rest here between monsoons, leaving footprints in the sand that waves erase by dawn. Snorkel the fringing reef where baby blacktips patrol. This is your castaway fantasy—pristine, peaceful, perfect.

Aboard the Athira Phinisi: Stillness Found
As a university lecturer, my life is governed by semesters and syllabi. The Athira Phinisi offered a rare reprieve—structured only by tides and light. We spent a full day at Nusa Kode, hiking the dry savannah and spotting deer near the waterline. In the afternoon, we swam off the port side, the yacht perfectly still. Later, anchored near Loh Liang, we watched a lone dragon amble across the beach at dusk. The Standard Cabin was compact but impeccably finished—especially the brass fixtures and linen quality. The evening briefings were concise, informative, never patronizing. One night, the generator hummed louder than usual, but it was resolved by morning. What impressed me most was the balance: this is a luxury vessel, yet it never overshadows the landscape. The Athira Phinisi serves the sea, not the other way around.

Depth Below, Clarity Above
As part of an advanced dive group, we required a vessel that could handle deep, remote sites. The Athira Phinisi exceeded expectations. Its positioning near Batu Bolong allowed for two dives a day on the north and south walls, each with distinct current patterns and marine life. The yacht’s compressor system maintained perfect fills, and the gear rinse area was spacious. We also spent time at Gili Lawa, where the shallows teemed with juvenile reef fish. The crew, led by a dive-savvy first mate, briefed us with precision—no fluff, just facts. I stayed in the Master Suite, which had excellent sound insulation—critical after long dives. The only critique? The tender could’ve been slightly larger for group drop-offs. But it’s a minor point. What stays with me is the moment, 25 meters down at Batu Bolong, when a school of barracuda formed a silver vortex around us—and above, the dappled sunlight piercing the surface, where the Athira waited, patient and proud.

No me decepcionó.

Master Suite kami memiliki bathtub outdoor — we bathed under the stars, which was unforgettable. But overall, every detail was curated with care.

Diving Deep with Athira
Our dive group of twelve booked the Athira Phinisi for its reputation in handling technical itineraries. We weren’t disappointed. The dive deck is well-organized—stations for gear, camera rinsing, and nitrox blending. At Batu Bolong, strong currents brought pelagics close, and the crew timed our entries flawlessly. The onboard compressor maintained consistent fills, and tanks were prepped before we even surfaced. One night dive near Kanawa revealed flamboyant cuttlefish in mating displays, a rare sight. Accommodations were comfortable; my cabin had ample storage for dual tanks and housing. The food catered well to divers—high-protein meals, hydration emphasis. Wi-Fi was limited, but honestly, who needs it when you’re logging 80-foot walls? The only critique: the briefing room screen was slightly outdated, making video playback choppy. Still, the captain rerouted last minute to include Wainilu after hearing of recent mantas—proof of responsive seamanship. The Athira feels like a working vessel first, with luxury woven in subtly. We surfaced each day salted, tired, and utterly fulfilled.

Still Waters and Deep Currents
I joined the Athira Phinisi for a week-long escape after a demanding project. The transition from city to sea was immediate. The yacht’s rhythm—gentle wakes, soft footfalls on deck, the occasional call from the bridge—became a kind of meditation. We anchored at Manta Point twice; the second time, a juvenile manta circled our group for nearly ten minutes, close enough to see its scars and spots. At Kanawa Island, I kayaked alone in the late afternoon, the only sound the dip of the paddle. The Master Suite’s layout maximizes space without excess—every drawer, every shelf, feels intentional. The food leaned French-Indonesian, which worked well, though I’d have welcomed a night of purely local dishes. The crew, though small, operated like a well-oiled machine. One night, I mentioned I liked nutmeg; the next morning, it appeared freshly grated in my coffee. That’s the Athira Phinisi—attentive, but never fussy.
