About Zulaika 02 Liveaboard
Zulaika 02 Liveaboard was purpose-built for the specific challenge that makes Komodo diving technically demanding and genuinely extraordinary: the current. The vessel's hull, engine specification, and crew training all reflect an operational priority around current management — how to position the tender, when to run the sites, how to read the tide tables for the passages that separate the beginner-friendly from the expert-only. At 21.65 meters of premium ironwood construction, with a professional team of five to six and a 190HP marine engine at eleven knots, Zulaika 02 carries up to nine guests in a dive-focused private-charter format where the emphasis is on underwater access rather than above-water spectacle. The vessel is the specialist choice for advanced divers who want Komodo's most current-driven sites — Manta Alley, Crystal Rock, the Shotgun — approached by a team that understands the water rather than merely the itinerary. KomodoExplorer Indonesia recommends Zulaika 02 Liveaboard for divers ready to dive Komodo the way Komodo demands to be dived.

◈
KELOR ISLAND
Ancient sailors called it "The Guardian." Dutch colonials built watchtowers on its crown. Local legend says it's a giant sea turtle turned to stone. A 20-minute climb rewards you with 360° views of dragon territories. The coral gardens below hide patrolling sea turtles in crystal shallows.
◈
MANJERITE
Every sunset, tens of thousands of flying foxes launch from mangroves, creating a black river across orange skies. Ancient sea nomads believed these bats carried souls to the afterlife. Watch from your deck at 17:30. The sky will erupt. You'll forget to breathe.
◈
PADAR ISLAND
Three crescent bays—turquoise, cobalt, jade—curve around dragon-spine ridges. Legend says a dragon princess died here protecting her brothers. Her body became the ridgeline. Her tears became three seas. The 30-minute climb is ruthless, but every explorer says: "I can die now."
◈
PINK BEACH
One of only seven pink beaches on Earth. Microscopic red coral creates a rose-gold blush. Sailors once feared it was cursed by dragon blood. The reef drops from knee-deep to 50 meters—turtles, reef sharks, and octopi patrol waters so clear you'll think you're dreaming.
◈
KOMODO ISLAND
Ground zero. The throne. Komodo dragons—largest lizards on Earth, unchanged for 4 million years. They sprint 20 km/h, kill with venom-laced bites. Trek with armed rangers. Watch them sun like kings. Feel evolution stare back. This isn't a zoo. It's their Kingdom
◈
TAKA MAKASSAR
A sandbar that emerges at low tide, then disappears beneath waves. Sea nomads called it "Ghost Island"—a resting place for ocean spirits. Stand in the middle of the ocean with ankle-deep water. Snorkel where the island vanishes. Your private Maldives, but only for 2 hours.
◈
MANTA POINT
A submerged pinnacle where currents collide, creating a cleaning station for manta rays with 7-meter wingspans. Divers call them "Royal Stingrays"—reincarnated ocean kings. The taboo: look, never touch. Watch them barrel-roll beneath you. Swimming with mantas IS your bucket list.
◈
GILI LAWA
Twin islands—Lawa Darat and Lawa Laut—frame the golden highway between sky and sea. Ancient traders navigated by these peaks. At sunrise, watch the world ignite from savannah ridges. At sunset, the sky bleeds into three shades of fire. The 30-minute trek is steep, but the 360° view makes kings jealous.
◈
SLABA ISLAND
Slaba rises like a fortress from deep blue—a volcanic dome crowned with savannah where white-bellied sea eagles hunt. Bajo fishermen call it "Pulau Rajawali" (Eagle Island), believing the birds are guardians of hidden treasures below. Dive the walls where currents deliver big fish, sharks, and swirling barracuda. Above: eagles. Below: an underwater avalanche of life.
◈
SEBAYUR ISLAND
Sebayur guards one of Komodo's best-kept secrets: untouched coral gardens teeming with life. While others chase dragons, divers chase legends here—pygmy seahorses, ghost pipefishes, and macro critters hiding in soft coral forests. The bay is a natural aquarium. The hillside trek offers sunrise views without the Padar crowds.
◈
KANAWA ISLAND
While crowds chase Pink Beach, explorers slip to Kanawa—pristine coral reefs, zero crowds. Fishermen once avoided it, believing the Sea Goddess protected these waters. The reef here is 80% live coral. Turtles nest on beaches. Blacktip sharks patrol shallows. This is the Komodo nobody talks about.
◈
SABOLO ISLAND (RANGKO CAVE)
Hidden in Sabolo's limestone cliffs lies Rangko Cave—a saltwater cavern illuminated by a ceiling skylight. Sunbeams pierce the darkness, turning water neon blue. Local legend says bathing here grants courage to face dragons. Swim through the entrance tunnel. Surface inside the cathedral. Float in liquid sapphire while light dances on ancient rock.
◈
BIDADARI ISLAND
Bidadari" means angel in Indonesian. One glance explains why. Powdery white sand. Turquoise shallows. Zero crowds. Fishermen say angels rest here between monsoons, leaving footprints in the sand that waves erase by dawn. Snorkel the fringing reef where baby blacktips patrol. This is your castaway fantasy—pristine, peaceful, perfect.

Kanawa Island: Simplicity in Perfection
Joining a photography expedition on Zulaika 02 Liveaboard was a dream come true. We started at Kanawa Island, and I must say—the simplicity of that atoll, with its white sand spit extending into turquoise water, is postcard material. I shot the same scene at three different times of day, dan each had its own mood. The crew allowed flexible timing, which is rare. We also did a sunrise shoot at Padar Island—hiking in the dark with headlamps, then watching the valley light up below. Magical doesn’t do it justice. Boat-wise, everything is well-kept—my cabin had ample storage, and blackout curtains made for deep sleep. One small note: the USB ports in cabins are only 5W, so charging multiple devices takes time. But again, we were in nature—no complaints. The guide knew hidden spots, like a quiet cove near Manjarite where we had the entire beach. Dinners were long, leisurely affairs—grilled seafood, good conversation, local wine. This trip didn’t just feed my portfolio—it fed my soul.

Sunrise di Gili Lawa itu Worth the Wake-Up Call
The vibe onboard is so relaxed tapi tetap profesional, perfect untuk team bonding. We anchored at Gili Lawa utara, and waking up to that sunrise—soft golden light hitting the ridge—rasanya seperti di painting. Later, we stopped by Manta Point, and the mantas were just gliding like they owned the ocean. Sangat surreal. Satu-satunya thing: WiFi cuma available di certain spots and agak inconsistent. Tapi to be fair, we were in Komodo—disconnecting itu bagian dari healing. Makanan? Kalau bisa, tambahin satu day trip ke Manjarite, I’d love to explore the caves more slowly.
As a serious diver, I’m picky about dive boats. Zulaika 02 exceeded expectations. We did three dives at Taka Makassar — current kuat tapi well-managed oleh dive master. They even had Nitrox available, which is rare for private charters. The dive deck is organized, gear storage is smart, dan boat stability? Perfect, even in choppy water. Between dives, we relaxed at Rinca Island, saw komodo dragons up close — so wild! The food was a mix of Indonesian and Western, and I loved the soto betawi served one morning. Kabin simple tapi elegant, dan AC works flawlessly. Only thing: more towel changes would’ve helped after multiple dives. Still, this is the gold standard for Komodo liveaboards.
