A Quiet Anniversary in Komodo
Ten years married, and we wanted to mark it somewhere beyond the usual. The Ladyana Phinisi offered privacy without isolation. Our cabin faced west, so we woke to light spilling over Padar Island’s ridges and fell asleep to the gentle rock of the hull in calm bays. At Bidadari Beach, we swam out to the sandbar at low tide, then picnicked with fruit and aged cheddar from the galley. The chef adapted effortlessly to my husband’s dairy restriction—something I’d worried about. One afternoon, we kayaked around Nusa Kode, spotting monitor lizards along the shore. The boat’s design—2015 but timeless—blends traditional phinisi lines with modern comfort. Aircon worked flawlessly, though I wished for a slightly deeper reading nook in the lounge. Still, these are small things. What remains is the sense of space—between islands, between thoughts. We didn’t need to speak much. The sea did it for us.
Ladyana Phinisi:

Graceful Days on the Ladyana Phinisi
Sailing through Komodo National Park aboard the Ladyana Phinisi felt less like a trip and more like a quiet recalibration. I’d come for my 40th—something low-key but meaningful—and found both in the rust-red cliffs of Padar Island at dawn. The crew anticipated needs without hovering; breakfast was often already waiting with strong Balinese coffee when I surfaced on deck. At Bidadari Beach, we swam in that impossible turquoise, then just floated, talking about nothing. The boat’s teak decks warmed underfoot by mid-morning, and the cabin, while compact, was impeccably finished—rosewood fittings, crisp linen. One evening off Kalong Island, we watched the bats spiral into twilight like smoke. My only quibble? Wi-Fi was more symbolic than functional—but perhaps that was the point. Four days felt sufficient, though I’d have stayed longer if schedules allowed. There’s a rhythm to life on a phinisi that doesn’t rush, and Ladyana holds that tempo with confidence.

A Rare Kind of Calm
The Ladyana Phinisi doesn’t announce itself. It simply appears—elegant, understated, in tune with the sea. I joined as a solo traveller after a demanding project, seeking clarity. We began with a dive at Crystal Rock, where the current carried us over coral gardens alive with anthias and sweetlips. The dive master signalled calmly, never rushed. Later, on Komodo Island, we observed dragons near a watering hole—ancient, indifferent, perfectly adapted. The boat’s rhythm encouraged presence. Evenings were spent on deck with a single malt, watching stars emerge over Nusa Kode. The crew anticipated needs—fresh towels after snorkelling, chilled water without asking—yet never intruded. My cabin was compact but thoughtfully laid out, though charging devices required planning. But that felt right. Disconnection wasn’t enforced; it emerged. One night, anchored near Kalong, we cut the engine and listened to the bats take flight—an eerie, beautiful sound. Four days passed like a slow breath. I left feeling not rested, but realigned.

Ladyana Phinisi

Solitude and Scale on Ladyana
I joined the Ladyana Phinisi as a solo traveler, unsure how I’d settle into a group. By the second morning—anchored near Crystal Rock, mask in hand—I’d found my pace. The underwater topography there is dramatic: sheer walls, sudden drop-offs, currents that carry you gently over coral gardens. The crew, attentive without overreach, briefed me on local patterns and let me drift at my own rhythm. Later, on Komodo Island, the ranger pointed out a nesting site while a juvenile dragon lingered near a saltwater pool. The boat’s layout encouraged both engagement and retreat; I spent evenings on the upper deck, journaling under a sky unpolluted by light. One night, near Kalong Island, we cut the engine and listened to the bats take flight—an eerie, beautiful sound. My only note: charging ports in the cabin were limited. But that forced me offline, which, in hindsight, was beneficial. There’s a clarity that comes from being small in a vast place. Ladyana holds that space well.

Clear Waters, Deeper Reflections
I came aboard the Ladyana Phinisi after a year that demanded more than I had. The plan was simple: move slowly, see deeply. We began at Padar Island, where the hike down to the crescent bay revealed that iconic tri-bay view—less crowded at 7 a.m. The boat’s schedule allowed time to absorb, not just tick off. Snorkeling at Crystal Rock was revelatory: visibility so clear it felt like flying. The staff never rushed us, even when currents shifted. One evening, anchored off Nusa Kode, we dined under lanterns, eating grilled mahi with tamarind glaze. The chef sourced ingredients locally, which lent authenticity to every meal. My cabin, though snug, had excellent ventilation and a thoughtful layout. I’d have liked a fifth day—the rhythm was just settling when it ended. But perhaps that’s the nature of good travel: it leaves you slightly unbalanced, in the best way. Ladyana doesn’t perform luxury; it simply lives it.
